Croc Surfboard

Graphite pencil and spray paint on a 214 cm x 54 cm surfboard.

A private commissioned artwork on a surfer’s favourite winter board. My brief was, “…Create something dreamy, but threatening (and maybe some tentacles)…”. The surfboard must be fully functional, waterproofed and hardwearing.

I was left to my own devises with this one and decided to do a mysterious creature based upon a crocodile. I think this has to be my favourite board so far. It was fun to do and I really enjoyed applying the sprayed paint background, which consists of about five different coloured layers that were sanded smooth between each coat. The croc was drawn on with graphite pencil and then sealed with multiple layers of clear lacquer.
